- “Preserving Nature”
As part of our commitment to protecting the natural environment within the national park, we promote eco-friendly travel and tourism practices around Lake Shikotsu. As chairman of the Lake Shikotsu Fisheries Cooperative, I also oversee the sustainable management and conservation of the native himemasu salmon population, ensuring responsible distribution and long-term preservation. - “Community Engagement”
Our staff actively participate in local community life, supporting traditional festivals and regional customs. We are also involved in initiatives related to public safety, fire prevention, disaster preparedness, education, and attracting essential services such as clinics—all while planning and managing efforts to safeguard the Lake Shikotsu environment. - “Educational Experiences”
To deepen understanding of environmental and cultural issues, we offer unique programs such as “Hidden Hot Springs Kamishibai” and hands-on hot spring drilling experiences. Guests also gain insight into Japan’s Jomon heritage, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, through storytelling during dinner, featuring preserved foods and traditional irori hearths. - “Sustainability”

Marukoma Onsen Ryokan – A Lakeside Retreat on Shikotsu
Founded in 1915, Marukoma Onsen Ryokan is a historic hot spring inn nestled on the serene shores of Lake Shikotsu in Hokkaido. Known for its open-air panoramic bath with breathtaking lake views, the ryokan also boasts a rare natural hot spring that flows directly from the lakebed – a truly unique experience found only in a few places in Japan.
The mineral-rich waters, naturally cloudy and soothing, reflect the deep connection between the land and its history. Guests can savor seasonal Japanese cuisine crafted with local ingredients, served either in a traditional kaiseki style or grilled over an open irori hearth – a nod to the timeless culinary traditions of the region.
